1. Indian Government To Emphasis On Water Transportation
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that all the 360 toll plazas in the country would have e-tolling system for all the Highways and Road Transport by April. He made announcement of this on Make In India Week Media Centre in Mumbai and confirmed that this project will be on fast track. After this, the waiting time and fuel at toll plazas will be saved. He also added that Ministry is also focusing on Hybrid Annuity and Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) models for road projects. The lengths of the national highway road have been increased to 152,000 km to provide highways in various parts of country.
Along with the road transportation, he also emphasized on water transportation that adds adventure and beauty to travel. He said that three multi modal hubs are expected to be constructed in India in the cities like Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Sahibganj in Jharkhand and Haldia in West Bengal on the river Ganga. Overall, 30 water ports will be built that will be further increased to 500 in entire country. He informed that government would invest Rs. 80,000 cr on mechanization and modernization of major ports of the country.
