1. Air Travelers to Get More Compensation after Passage of Bill in Parliament
Travelers will be happy to know that parliament has passed an important bill that is related to the compensations of air travelers. This bill was passed in Lok Sabha in December 2015 and finally pending for President Approval. In the bill, passengers have several compensations for their various injuries and lose. In case of death or bodily injury of passenger will get revised SDR 100000 to SDR 113100, in case of delay carriage compensation revised from SDR 4150 to SDR 4694. The baggage delay or damage for each person is SDR 1000, however for cargo it will be SDR 17 – SDR 19.
The compensation on these various loses is calculated in SDR (Special Drawing Rights) where one can easily calculate the amount in various currencies. The value of the DSR is based on the market exchange rates and overcomes all the currency fluctuations. The value of SDR 1 is Rs. 93 approximately and is different for other currencies. Thus, both IATA and non-IATA operating in India in both domestic and international markets welcome the new compensation plan. Thus, after it is effective, India has to pay compensation to air travelers as per the new Act.
