Temple of Tooth: Kandy

Situated in the city of Kandy, Temple of Tooth is a wonderful tourist destination and even more important pilgrimage destinations for Buddhists. Also called Sri Dalada Maligawa, the temple houses the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha. It was believed that whosoever held the relic, would hold the governance of the country. This made it an important temple politically as well. Temple of Tooth is build within the Royal Palace premises and has been a constant target for attacks. However the temple was reconstructed every time it suffered damages and today stands in all its glory. It is also believed that it is due to this temple that Kandy has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
