Situated under the Swatberg Mountains, Cango caves is a labyrinth of caverns, tunnels and underground lakes. The caves were discovered in the year 1780 by a local cattle herder and since then have attracted many researchers and geologists. The caves are divided into different chambers which are all named. The first chamber which is 320 feet long and 50 m high is named Van Zyl's Hall. All the caves are covered with stalagmites and stalactites which are made of calcite. The illuminated caves of red, pink and white color seem to be a part of a fantasy world.
