A World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO, San Augustin Church is not only the oldest church, but is also the oldest surviving building in the whole of Philippines. The earliest structure of the church was completed in the year 1571, but was soon destroyed by fire in the year 1574. The construction of the present building started in the year 1586 and declared complete and operational in the year 1607. Since then it has attracted many pilgrims and tourists alike. San Augustin Church in Manila is around 67 m long and 24 m wide. The interiors of the church are lavishly decorated and are in the form of a Latin cross. It features a trompel'oeil ceiling which has some splendid carvings to show.
