Nestling at a height of 11,500 feet above sea level, Lake Titicaca is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. Covering an area of nearly 3,305 sq miles, it is the largest lake in entire South America. It is right at the border between Peru and Bolivia with almost equal area falling in both countries. It holds great importance in Inca mythology as it is believed to be the place where the first king of Inca was born to Sun God. There are many splendid islands on the lake which are inhabited. There is a group of 42 artificial islands which are collectively called Uros, made out of floating reeds which have become a major tourist attraction.
