Place: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
This is the most visited attraction of Muscat and the biggest mosque in entire Oman. The construction of this grand mosque was started in the year 1995 and it took slightly more than 6 years to complete the breathtaking design which was chosen from a competition held in the year 1992. The main prayer hall which is called Musalla is square in shape and can accommodate nearly 6500 worshipers at a time. There is a different prayer hall for women which can hold around 750 pilgrims. The exterior of the mosque is highly lavish but the interiors are more lavish. The main feature is in the main prayer hall which has the world's largest hand woven carpet. It took nearly 4 years to produce this carpet which exhibits Kashan and Isfahan designs. The walls are also brilliantly carved with high degree of ornamentation.
