Bahla Castle is one of few UNESCO recognized world Heritage Sites in Oman. This is among the oldest castles in Oman as its origin is believed to be before pre-Islamic period. The peculiar triangular shape of the castle is what sets this castle apart from the regular ones. The high walls that surround the castle rise to a height of 112 m in the east, 114 m in the north west and 135 m in southwest. Most parts of the present castle were built by Imam Azan bin Qais Al-Bu Saidi around the year 1868.
