Bagan is one of the most ancient cities of Myanmar which is spilled with numerous heritage attractions and historical temples. Situated around 145 km from the city of Mandalay, it was unsuccessfully nominated as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Most of the temples and structures now lay in ruins covering an area of nearly 16 sq. miles. The temples were generally built in between year 1000 and 1200. The temples here were restored in an irresponsible way, leaving the restored buildings hardly resembling the original designs and styles. However, what you get to see here still is awe inspiring and grand. The main attractions of this tranquil town are Ananda Temple, Bupaya Pagoda, Thatbyinnyu Temple, Htilominlo Temple and Payathonzu Temple.
