Lake Turkana

Formerly known as Lake Rudolf, Lake Turkana happens to be the largest permanent desert lake of the world. At the same time, it is also the world's largest alkaline lake. It is there in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya and extends towards Ethiopia. Adding another feather to its cap, it is the world's fourth largest salt lake.

It houses a diverse wildlife that includes Nile Crocodiles, that can be some 18 feet long, and several types of fishes. It is a very significant archaeological site as there are several fossils, stone tools and footprints are found here that proves the existence of our early ancestors inhibiting the place. The climate is sort of hot and dry, but an interesting destination top visit.
