Shaumari Wildlife Reserve

This forest reserve has become one of the most famous attractions of Jordan for being home to some very rare species of animals and birds. The bird population especially, is the highlight of Shaumari Reserve. You can spot here Ostriches Goitered Gazelles, Arabian Oryx and Persian Onagers and all of these are extremely rare species. There is an educational hall in the reserve that teaches students about captive breeding and about environment and fauna in semi arid regions. Shaumari was recognized as a reserve in the year 1975 and since then has initiated many conservation programmes.
