Nijo Castle

Kyoto is home to a big share of glorious Japanese history, and Nijo Castle is the most important attraction of the city. The total premise of the castle covers an area of 275,000 sq. m, out of which only 8000 sq m is under buildings, rest is all beautiful gardens. The castle was completed in the year 1626 under the rule Tokugawa Iemitsu. The construction of the castle is done in traditional Japanese style and is considered a hallmark of excellence in the field. The castle has two concentric rings of fortification, both having a high wall and a wide moat. The area too be covered and the things to be seen are immense, so make sure you have a complete day with you to explore the finest details of the castle.
