Vatican City

With population of less than 900 and area of only 44 hectares. It is the smallest state in the world, both population wise and area wise. Lying within the territory of Rome, Vatican was formed only in the year 1929. Half of Vatican is covered with beautiful gardens called Vatican City Gardens which were built during the Renaissance period. More charm is added to the gardens with well carved sculptures and fountains. The churches in the Vatican City are considered to be the most important in the world. St. Peter's Basilica, Basilica of St. John Lateran, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Paul are the most known churches in the city.
