Masada

Marked by some ancient forts and monuments, this large stretch of barren land is adjudged a national park of Israel. Situated in Judean Desert, the fortress called Massada at the top of the mountain is the main attraction of the park. This archaeological site was discovered in the year 1882 but was excavated heavily from 1963 to1965. For people who wish to see this piece of history but are in no mood to physically strain themselves walking in the arid and dry conditions, there is a cable car that is operated to the top of the hill. There are remains of many more monuments like the roman ramp, a Byzantine Church.
