Situated close to the city of Ashdod, it is one of the many wonders of the world that is quickly losing its place. Many of the modern cities of Israel are built on lands that were once covered by similar sand dunes. Now only a small region between Ashdod and Ashkelon retains the shifting sands. It is home to a unique ecosystem that is of utmost importance for scientific researches and has become a popular tourists' recreational destination. There are regular tours organized to the Ashdod Sand Dune.
