Taj Mahal

The incredible beauty of the Taj Mahal has magnetized mankind with its charm for ages. With a profile as distinct as that of other wonders of the world, the magnanimous edifice happens to be an iconic structure of India. It is one of the seven wonders of the world. A trip to Taj Mahal in Agra give us a glimpse of the beautiful Indian heritage. The city Agra in India, where the magnificent structure is located, was a powerful city in the medieval times. Today, it is flocked with legions of tourists from across the globe and the reason is invariably to catch a glimpse of the enchanting Taj Mahal.

The extravagant expression of love has a long heart warming story hidden within.

Story Behind the Taj Mahal

The story goes back to 1607, when a prince caught the glimpse of a charming girl hawking silk and glass beads. This was just the beginning of an extraordinary love story.

Five years later the prince (Shah Jahan) wed Arjumand Banu . It was indeed a fairy tale union from the start, one that withstood all the court artifice, battles for succession and finally, the grand coronation.

The affection, passion and the love can be felt at the very first sight as one arrives here.

And when Arjumand Banu died , she was just 19 years old, Shah Jahan etched her story in stone, “Taj Mahal” the white marble wonder.

This is the only monument of love, where perhaps, every inch of the superstructure from one corner to the other, explicits the beauty of Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Banu) as she was known before marriage and the intense feelings Shah Jahan had for her.

Construction of this marble wonder started in the year 1631 and was completed in 22 years. Twenty thousand people toiled day and night and the end result was the 'Great Taj Mahal'. The inlay work has been carried out with great skill, creating a flawless and smooth surface with no visible joints. The pristine white marble of the Taj Mahal contrasts with the colors of the inlaid stones creating a beautiful and majestic effect.

The beautiful proportions of each element of the Taj complex is amazing. The exquisitely decorated interiors, brilliant engravings in the florid screens surrounding the tomb add to the sublime experience of the Taj Mahal.

The sight of the Taj Mahal on a full moon night is truly beholding and truly proves it to be 'A Tear Drop on the Face of Eternity'. No trip in India is complete without Taj Mahal tour.
