Savannah Music Festival is all about the presentation of a world-class celebration of the musical arts by creating timeless and adventurous productions. Savannah, in the eastern Georgia hosts the Savannah Music Festival annually. It is an a cross-genre music event that has its own significance and charm.
The port city of Savannah in the eastern Georgia hosts the Savannah Music Festival annually. This happens to be the largest musical arts festival of the region. Celebrated every spring time in Georgia, the Savannah Music Festival is a fine specimen of a cross-genre event that celebrates both the musical heritage of the local and international musicians.
The Festival was first held in 1988 as an effort to increase cultural tourism in Savannah and its surrounding area. It was known as Savannah Onstage International Arts Festival till 2002 when it got its present name.
Nonetheless, the Savannah Music Festival is all about the presentation of a world-class celebration of the musical arts by creating timeless and adventurous productions that stimulate arts education, foster economic growth, and unite artists and audiences in Savannah.
The fiesta remains committed to producing a superlative musical extravaganza that advances the spectators' understanding and appreciation of music through a variety of educational initiatives. It provides free educational programmes for schoolchildren in Chatham and surrounding counties.
Savannah Music Festival has a legacy of hosting some of the well known names like Bonnie Raitt, Andre Watts, Wynton Marsalis, Zakir Hussain, Dianne Reeves, Emerson String Quartet and many more.
Apart from the musical performances that includes dance, film, and narrative shows, this festival undertakes year-round programmes to produce youth concerts, lectures, a weekly radio series, an annual high school jazz band competition and festival.
