Jorvik Viking Festival is the time of the year when the Viking traditions are celebrated in a grand manner with thousands of vikings taking part in this festival.
The Jorvik Viking Festival is a long-established festival in York, celebrating our Viking heritage. It was first celebrated in the year 1985 and since then, this festival hosts hundreds of Vikings descend on the city and demonstrate battle-drills and training routines. Apart from inviting Vikings from all over the world, the event organizes dozens of specially organized arts, music, drama and action events throughout the city.
The city is also treated to a range of public events including lectures, arts & crafts, encampments, river events, saga-telling, and full-scale battle re-enactments. The proceedings of this festival appeal to everyone with events which span a wide range of interests and aimed at different age-groups. As York was ruled by the Viking kings between 866AD and 952AD, this festival finds a apt home in the Jorvik Centre.
