International Rally , Jordan

The Jordan International Rally is a rally competition held in Jordan since the early 1980s. Until 2008, this championship was a part of the Middle East Rally Championship. But in 2008, World Rally Championship (WRC) included it in its calendar making it the first occurrence of a WRC event in the Arab country.

The extreme conditions of the venue and the challenging tracks make it a much awaited motor sport event in its own category. The temperature usually hits above the 40 degree Celsius mark that squeezes out energy from the participants and it takes more than skills to brave it out.

Apart from the climatic obstacles, the track and route of the rally is a true test of the driving skills of the person at wheels along with the navigator. The starting point and headquarter of the rally is located near the Dead Sea which happens to be the lowest land point on earth. The wild and merciless gravel covered paths makes the Jordan Rally a different experience for the drivers as well as the spectatiors.

It is a real experience to see the expert drivers driving down the remains of the stunning former Roman city of Jerash, the Jordan Valley (400 meters below sea level) and within the Rumman forests. The mere sight of the sports cars zooming forward leaving a dust filled trail behind them is a treat for anyone.
