Come October Indian capital Glasgow, Scotland is going to host the 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games with pomp and gaiety. Put at par with the Olympics or the Asian Games, this multi-sport event is an excellent opportunity for the athletes to showcase their skills in a large scale. Glasgow has set up some world class stadiums to hold 17 different sporting events with fine arrangement of hospitality.

The nineteenth edition of the Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be organized in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. The entire city along with the whole English community is ready to welcome athletes from the Commonwealth nations for this gala ceremony.

Commonwealth Games is a multi-sport event that is very closely mentioned with the other sports event in this category like the Olympics or the Asian Games. The earliest edition of this game was held as British Empire Games in 1930 and through a topsy turvy run down the years and various names, the celebration got its current name in the year 1978.

Held in every four year, the Commonwealth Games is a perfect platform for the sports persons to showcase their skills and talent in a world scale. The major events that draw the world attention are- boxing, cycling, basketball, hockey, archery, badminton, swimming, tennis, wrestling, volleyball and so on.

The newly constructed and modified stadiums of New Delhi are all set to host the 17 different sporting events. The main stadiums that will help the games proceed are- Hampden Park and Celtic Park.

The mascot of this edition is known as Shera- a friendly tiger. The Commonwealth Games itself is a manifestation of the spirit and soul of a true sports person who carries the pride of the mother land with respect for other nations.
