If you are a movie freak and keep updates of all the latest happenings in the movie world, then coming to Athens International Film and Video Festival is must.
An ideal platform for independent film makers, the Athens International Film & Video Festival is a coveted ceremony by all means.
The festival was originated in the year 1974 and is a project of the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University. The Athens Center for Film and Video has been a sponsor for this event for some time now.
In an average more than 300 films from various genre are submitted here. These works are screened to a group of audience comprising of artists, students, and community activists. Among those films some 80 are selected for public screening.
The awards are slotted for four broad categories with sub heads: Documentary, Experimental, Narrative, and Animation. The $ 500 prize money worth Black Bear Award is given to the work with the best and optimum use of sound effects.
With an attendance of more than 6000 cine lovers, this niche festival has crafted a particular place for itself in the wide versatile world of cinema.
