The Sof Omar Cave

It's like visiting a whole new world sprawling beneath your feet. Sof Omar Cave is the largest cave system in Ethiopia and probably the largest in the continent. The magnificent cave system runs a length of nearly 15 km in a zigzag manner. Tourists generally enter the caves from Holuca Resurgence. It is formed by fast flowing Wabi River and was first discovered in the year 1897. The main attraction of the cave is the Chamber of Columns for its meticulous pillars which are many in numbers. The caves hold a huge religious significance for the locals and in Islam.
