Bird Watching In The Hills

There are more than 850 species of birds that are regularly spotted in Ethiopia making it one of the best birdwatching destinations in Africa. Nearly 23 of these are seen only in the deep jungles of Ethiopia. Awash National Park and Abijata-Shalla Lakes National Park together account for more than half of the total species of birds in Ethiopia. The experience of bird watching varies noticeably as one travels in different altitudes. On the lower altitudes and near the lakes, birds like kingfisher, storks and pelicans are more common. On higher altitudes, you can sight birds like Golden Eagle, Red-billed Chough, Ruddy Shelduck and many more. October to December is the best time for bird watching in Ethiopia.
