Covering an area of nearly 285 km, El Cajas is one of the most visited national parks in Ecuador. The park is situated in the highlands of the country at heights of 3100m and above. Strewn with lush green valleys, with crystal clear lakes on its foots, El Cajas is among the most scenic destinations in the country. Declared a national park in 1996, El cajas is rich in both flora and fauna species. There are nearly 44 mammal species in the park including puma, weasel, skunk, fox and the endemic Cajas Water Mouse.
