Rila Monastery

Rila Monastery is the biggest monastery in Bulgaria which is situated in the northwestern part of Rila Mountains. This 10th century monastery has been an important link in religious proposition of Bulgaria. Rila Monastery has had a turbulent past with fires and abandonment regularly affecting the monastery. But one can still see a lot of original architecture that has mesmerized pilgrims and tourists from the beginning.
