Declared as a world Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1979, Ivanovo Rock Monasteries is situated near the village of Ivanovo which is 20 Km south of Rousse. This group of monolithic monasteries and churches is most famous for the medieval frescoes. At the time when these monasteries were build, there were nearly 40 churches and 300 other structures. However only a small number of them are remaining.
